In the context of the Z<\/span>ETA<\/span> principles, the term “Z<\/span>ETA<\/span>” is an acronym for <\/span>“<\/span>Zoophiles for <\/span>E<\/span>thical <\/span>T<\/span>reatment of <\/span>A<\/span>nimals<\/span>“<\/span>.<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n<\/p>\n

Th<\/span>ose<\/span> principles were created in the ’90s by the <\/span>a<\/span>merican <\/span>z<\/span>oo<\/span>phile<\/span> community. Aim was to establish rules and <\/span>a <\/span>moral framework regarding the responsible treatment of <\/span>our <\/span>fellow animals. Over time, the <\/span>Z<\/span>eta <\/span>P<\/span>rinciples found their way to Europe and have been ad<\/span>o<\/span>pted by the <\/span>g<\/span>erman community in which they are deeply rooted today as “common sense”.<\/span><\/div>\n

When preparing to start a<\/span>n association of\u00a0<\/span> z<\/span>oophiles back in the summer of 2009, the question<\/span> came up <\/span>, what name should be given this <\/span>project<\/span>.<\/span> There were <\/span>numerous proposals<\/span> and <\/span>finally<\/span> the idea <\/span>won <\/span>to literally put the <\/span>p<\/span>rinciples on the flag and <\/span>chose the<\/span> the <\/span>b<\/span>ackronym <\/span>o<\/span>f<\/span> “Zoophiles Engagement f\u00fcr Toleranz und Aufkl\u00e4rung”<\/span>\u00a0<\/i><\/span> (<\/span>z<\/span>oophiles commitment for <\/span>t<\/span>olerance and awareness).<\/span><\/div>\n<\/p>\n

So it can be stated that the <\/span>Z<\/span>ETA<\/span> P<\/span>rinciples existed long before the first thought<\/span>s<\/span> about\u00a0 an association like ZETA, <\/span>and thus the <\/span>Z<\/span>ETA<\/span> P<\/span>rinciples <\/span>are <\/span>not deduced from <\/span>the <\/span>ZETA<\/span> project<\/span>, but vice versa.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/p>\n
